Elective prenatal ultrasound is a 3D/4D ultrasound that provides more detailed information than a normal black and white 2D ultrasound. 3D/4D imaging or ultrasound is a joyous experience for parents and families as it brings them closer to the unborn child through 3D and 4D imaging. The prenatal ultrasound enables you to see the colored images of your unborn child, their movement in the womb, and even make you hear the baby’s heartbeat. Whether your baby is smacking his/her lips, sucking the thumb, or yawning in the womb, you can see everything with a 3D/4D ultrasound.
At Baby’s First Selfie, we don’t claim to assess the baby for any abnormalities during the ultrasound. We advise all pregnant women to get their scheduled ultrasound examination to know about the gestational age of the embryo or the evaluation of any abnormalities during pregnancy.
Sure, you can bring anyone along. In fact, we encourage our clients to come with their families as we know how exciting this moment can be for you and your family. If you are about to get your 3D/4D ultrasound done, drink water, water, and water. It’s very significant for pregnant women to stay hydrated to get the best 3D/4D imaging results. We recommend mothers to be to drink extra water three days before their ultrasound appointment. Also, you’re advised to pay attention to the time when your baby is most active and schedule your appointment around that time. This way, you will be able to see your baby moving in the womb. Thirdly, pay attention to whether or not you’re eating or drinking is affecting the baby’s energy levels, and try to eat or not eat before your appointment. It’s seen that many babies become cheerful if a mother eats or drinks something fruity and cold. If that is the case with your baby, too, we recommend eating or drinking some juice or a smoothie on your way to the ultrasound appointment. Please avoid caffeine consumption before the ultrasound, as it is supposed to put the baby to sleep in most cases.
The recommended time to get a 3D/4D ultrasound done is between the 6th to 7th months of your gestation period. Even though 3D imaging can be done anytime during the pregnancy, it’s still recommended to wait for at least 26 weeks. Below are examples of some babies at different gestation times to give you an idea about planning your visit at the right time. About 24 to 28 weeks of the gestation period is a good time to get the ultrasound done, but as the baby is smaller and thinner at that time, you can’t see everything. Most women do get their 3D/4D ultrasound in their 2nd and 3rd trimesters to enjoy more of their baby’s memories in the womb. How your baby looks depends on your gestation month. In the starting months, pictures do come like the baby’s whole body being curled up or moving around, but features are not properly visible. If you are interested in seeing the baby’s fuller face with visible features, then you should get your 3D/4D done at least after 28 weeks of your pregnancy. The location of the placenta plays a major role in the quality and ability to get ultrasound images. If your placenta is placed on the front or anterior, we recommend you book your appointment right around the 28th week. Even if you have come a far way, don’t hesitate to get in touch with us to book an appointment.
After more than 25 years of extensive studies, it has been found that ultrasounds are completely safe, and they don’t cause any harm to the mother or the baby. Even is very important to get your 3D/4D scanning done throughout the pregnancy. In 3D/4D ultrasound, the same type and intensity of rays are used as in the conventional 2D ultrasound. The technology on which the 3D imaging works is the same as that of radar. A probe placed on the body generates sound waves into the body, which creates an image in return for the sound.
